GLOBALIZATION FROM BELOW IN HARD TIMES

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

February 6, 2009   The economic globalization that transformed the world at the turn of the century promised, according to its advocates, a glorious vista of prosperity that would provide unprecedented economic growth and raise billions of people out of poverty.  In practice it generated personal and national insecurity, growing inequality, and a race to… Read More »

“GLOBALIZATION FROM BELOW TACKLES THE “GREAT RECESSION”

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

January 26, 2009   At the pit of the Great Depression in 1930, an American country music group named the Carter Family recorded a song called The Worried Man Blues. It began: “I went down to the river and I lay down to sleep When I woke up there were shackles on my feet.” Though… Read More »

GLOBAL WARMING AND THE GREAT RECESSION

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

January 5, 2009   Global warming directly threatens virtually every individual, group, and nation. Climate protection represents the great common necessity for humanity. It is a concern for labor, its allies, and the globalization from below movement. Posted by Jeremy Brecher

The economic crisis, which has been smoldering for more than a year, caught fire when the US housing… Read More »

ABOUT JEREMY BRECHER

11You and I may not know each other, but I suspect there are some problems that we share -- problems like climate change, war, and injustice. For half a century I have been participating in and writing about social movements that address those problems. The purpose of this website is to share what I've learned. I hope it provides something of use to you in addressing our common problems.

For the record, I am the author of more than a dozen books on labor and social movements. I have written and/or produced more than twenty video documentaries. I have participated in movements for nuclear disarmament, civil rights, peace in Vietnam, international labor rights, global economic justice, accountability for war crimes, climate protection, and many others.
