Anyone who met Tim was immediately charmed by his beautiful voice (with that wonderful old-school Boston accent), his powerful intellect and his ability to tell fascinating stories. I knew him not as an activist, but as a neighbor, a fellow Red Sox devotee and as the father of my daughter’s best friend. I will sorely miss chatting with him in the backyard, him at his window, about Obama, Pedroia, Bush and Bay. I will miss hearing stories about his father, Hyde Park and the rail yards of his youth, the many years he spent on the road, the late night oil deliveries in the seediest parts of Brooklyn, the stories he brought back from his many travels, his love of Cape Anne, and his seemingly endless knowledge of politics, history and culture. I will treasure the memories of Fenway Park, the warm and relaxing days spent with Tim, Susanne and Pia in the Berkshires, and all the unique and charming mannerisms of a man who truly embodied the meaning of the Yiddish word “mensch”.
