UNITING FOR PEACE

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

April 2, 2003   The United Nations General Assembly is hovering on the edge of calling an emergency session to challenge the US attack on Iraq. But US opposition has been fierce. The world’s “other superpower” — global public opinion as expressed in the global peace movement — can tip the balance if it concentrates… Read More »

WHAT CAN THE WORLD DO, IF BUSH ATTACKS IRAQ?

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

March 12, 2003   Uniting for Peace If the US attacks Iraq without support of the UN Security Council, will the world be powerless to stop it? The answer is no. Under a procedure called “Uniting for Peace,” the UN General Assembly can demand an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal. The global peace movement should consider… Read More »

REPLY TO CHUCK MORSE, “THEORY OF THE ANTI-GLOBALIZATION MOVEMENT”

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

May 2, 2003   I thank Chuck Morse for his critical review of Globalization from Below—I consider a good critic to be one’s best friend.(1) The book’s prime objective was to provoke discussion about the goals and practices of what’s often referred to as the anti-globalization movement, and in this case we clearly succeeded. ABOUT JEREMY BRECHER

11You and I may not know each other, but I suspect there are some problems that we share -- problems like climate change, war, and injustice. For half a century I have been participating in and writing about social movements that address those problems. The purpose of this website is to share what I've learned. I hope it provides something of use to you in addressing our common problems.

For the record, I am the author of more than a dozen books on labor and social movements. I have written and/or produced more than twenty video documentaries. I have participated in movements for nuclear disarmament, civil rights, peace in Vietnam, international labor rights, global economic justice, accountability for war crimes, climate protection, and many others.
