‘JOBS VS. THE ENVIRONMENT’: HOW TO COUNTER THIS DIVISIVE BIG LIE

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

April 22, 2014   In an era in which our political system is dominated by plutocracy, grassroots social movements are essential for progressive change. But too often our movements find themselves at loggerheads over the seemingly conflicting need to preserve our environment and the need for jobs and economic development. How can we find common… Read More »

THE POWER OF THE POWERLESS

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

October 21, 2013   Original published in TIDAL The 1% possesses the lion’s share of the world’s wealth; they dominate the world’s political systems; they command armies of heavily armed cops and soldiers; their views are propagated by another army of media and academic flacks.  Yet we know that social movements and popular upheavals ranging… Read More »

CLIMATE PROTECTION CAN LEARN FROM THE AIDS MOVEMENT

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

September 25, 2013   LNS’s Jeremy Brecher and AIDS policy expert Kevin Fisher maintain in a new commentary in NATURE CLIMATE CHANGE that governments have ceased any serious individual or collective effort for climate protection. Yet there is no vehicle or venue to draw together scientists combatting climate change with representatives of the billions of… Read More »

A SECOND ECOLOGICAL REVOLUTION?

Posted by Jeremy Brecher

ABOUT JEREMY BRECHER

11You and I may not know each other, but I suspect there are some problems that we share -- problems like climate change, war, and injustice. For half a century I have been participating in and writing about social movements that address those problems. The purpose of this website is to share what I've learned. I hope it provides something of use to you in addressing our common problems.

For the record, I am the author of more than a dozen books on labor and social movements. I have written and/or produced more than twenty video documentaries. I have participated in movements for nuclear disarmament, civil rights, peace in Vietnam, international labor rights, global economic justice, accountability for war crimes, climate protection, and many others.
